(Picture: ITV) The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Coronation Street dated August 3. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube. Disturbing scenes aired in today’s episode of Coronation Street, as Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) has potentially been murdered by Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) father Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield). Last week, Cassie attempted to get rid of Ross by spiking his drink with some of Tyrone’s painkillers. Following Ross’ arrival to Weatherfield, Cassie deeply struggled to see her loved ones get to know the man. She eventually told Tyrone that Ross raped her when she was fifteen, which resulted in her falling pregnant with him. Tyrone confronted his dad, but he fell for his comments about him being a changed man and gave him another chance. When Cassie discovered that Ross needed to take a drugs test for his new job at a local prison, she crushed up some of Tyrone’s medication and mixed them into a drink Ross was planning on putting in his work bag. He manipulated love interest Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) into drinking the poisoned smoothie instead, which led to her being rushed to hospital. Tracy accused Cassie of spiking her drink, due to the fact she literally has done this sort of thing before. While Tracy didn’t have any proof to back up her theory, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) eventually found the pill packet amongst Cassie’s belongings that seemingly confirmed Tracy was right. Cassie tried to tell everyone that Ross had planted the packet and framed her, but no-one listened. They were all tired of Cassie’s comments about Ross being a vile man, and decided it was time to wash their hands of her. Isolated, Cassie knew her family in Weatherfield wanted her to leave. Prior to departing the cobbles for a new job, she had one last attempt at getting Tyrone to listen to her, but her efforts weren’t enough. After an emotional farewell, Cassie headed to the precinct. She had plans to meet Steve, but Ross intercepted and got there first. He told Cassie that he’d give her a lift to the train station. She tried to get the upperhand by threatening to tell the police about Ross raping her, but it was at this point the man snapped and refused to let Cassie out of the car. This was the last we saw of the character, therefore indicating that they were Claire Sweeney’s final scenes as Cassie Plummer. A few hours later, Ross returned to Ty’s house. He made a comment about how he’d like to help with childcare now Cassie has gone, and then took Tracy back home. As he left, Ross was seen holding a family picture that belonged to Cassie. The only person who knows what happened after Cassie got into the car is Ross. Everyone else is under the impression Cassie has started a new chapter elsewhere, but viewers have been left with a far more chilling possibility…that Ross may have murdered her.
