Prime Video's Carrie may have been billed as a miniseries, but the final episode left enough story open for a potential second season. Based on Stephen King's seminal 1974 debut novel, Carrie is Mike Flanagan's first series under his multi-year exclusivity deal with Amazon, and it released all eight episodes on October 7, 2026. Flanagan made some major changes in his Carrie adaptation, including setting the series in the present day and introducing other powered characters besides Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), including her astral projector friend Emaline (Thalia Dudek) and an entire group led by the formidable Adelaide (Kate Siegel). However, he kept Carrie's grisly prom outcome the same, in which Carrie's bullies dump a bucket of pig's blood on her head after she's crowned prom queen, and the protagonist seeks revenge by murdering almost everyone in the school gym — though in Flanagan's version, Carrie had some assistance from the more vengeful Emaline. Though Carrie's ending covers the prom night massacre in brutal detail, that's hardly where the story ends. Flanagan teases that there's a lot more to learn about Adelaide's coven, Emaline, and their adversarial relationship. In fact, it's a story that the celebrated writer-director has gone on record saying he wants to make. Carrie Hasn't Been Renewed, But Mike Flanagan Has Plans For More Seasons While miniseries turn into full-fledged TV shows all the time in our current streaming era, Carrie only just premiered, and as of this writing, Prime Video has not announced any plans to renew the series beyond its initial eight-episode run. However, that hasn't stopped Flanagan from thinking of Carrie's future, and he revealed his "dream scenario" when speaking to Collider in September at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting the series: In my dream scenario, I think it’s three seasons. In my dream scenario, I think Carrie has a wonderful three-step arc. It’s a trilogy, really. Having a multi-season series would be a first for the auteur, as all of Flanagan's previous Netflix horror shows have been miniseries or have only lasted one season. However, it's not difficult to envision the new Prime Video series running for more seasons, particularly as Flanagan deviated from King's Carrie novel and the 1976 Brian DePalma film adaptation by having Carrie survive. Flanagan didn't say exactly what Carrie's three-step arc would look like, but if season 1 saw Carrie discovering and learning how to use her powers, season 2 could see her honing them, and in season 3, she could be put to the ultimate test. The current Carrie finale also dropped several clues as to what a sophomore installment might look like. How Carrie's Ending Sets Up Season 2 While many characters had their fates sealed — permanently — the Carrie finale left several questions unanswered, which could all be explored in a second season. Perhaps the biggest of all is what will become of Carrie White herself. The telekinetic prom queen murdered over 200 people, brought her house crashing to the ground, and left her mother for dead; she doesn't have a home to go back to and is officially on the run with Emaline. Carrie season 2 would likely start by showing where exactly Emaline is taking Carrie. The astral projector has a destination in mind, but she doesn't reveal it to the audience or Carrie out of fear that Adelaide's mysterious coven might be tracking the protagonist's thoughts via the group's mindreader, Caitlyn (Delainey Hayles). That group, which existed largely in the background until the Carrie finale, would likely play a much bigger role in season 2. They've had their sights on Carrie since the premiere, and the continuation of the story could give more information as to who exactly they are and what they want with the protagonist. Emaline and the coven also appear to be bitter enemies, as the former refers to the latter as "monsters" while Adelaide tells Margaret (Samantha Sloyan) that Emaline is very dangerous. Both factions have proven to be lethal, with Emaline eagerly "taking the wheel" from Carrie to enact the prom night massacre, and Adelaide coldly killing Margaret when realizing that she will be of no use in Adelaide's mission to track Emaline and Carrie down. For the first time in her life, Carrie White has total agency, and in season 2, she'll likely have to use it to determine who she can trust. More Seasons Of Carrie Would Be A Major Expansion Of Stephen King's Story Carrie White dies in Stephen King's novel, and the author has never expanded her world in any of his books. There has also never been an official follow-up to any of the movies, save 1999's The Rage: Carrie 2, an incredibly loose sequel to the Brian DePalma film that was originally based on an entirely unrelated script. Thus, Flanagan would be exploring new territory if Carrie season 2 moves ahead. However, what's most exciting is that the Prime Video series has already proven to connect to a wider Stephen King universe. Right before she kills Margaret, Adelaide makes an offhand comment about people having a "little shine in them". This is a direct reference to King's The Shining, with a widespread fan theory being that the Carrie and The Shining universes are connected, as Carrie's TK gene shares many similarities with Danny Torrance's shine. There are no plans for Flanagan to remake The Shining, but he is working on a TV adaptation of King's beloved novel series The Dark Tower. Flanagan also teased a Carrie-The Dark Tower connection, telling TV Insider, "I do think this all exists on a certain level of the Tower, and Carrie’s place in that bigger world is something he hints at very much in the book." Whether that happens in more seasons of Carrie or Flanagan's upcoming Dark Tower series has yet to be revealed, but this likely isn't the last you've seen of Carrie White.
