Showrunner Mike Flanagan's supernatural horror series, Carrie, is officially returning for a second chapter. The renewal announcement comes just two weeks after the eight-episode first season debuted globally on October 7, 2026.Flanagan will helm the second season of the series as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, collaborating once again with legendary author Stephen King, who serves as an executive producer alongside Trevor Macy. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Prime Video, while announcing the second season on its Instagram handle, wrote, "Her story is far from finished. Carrie is returning for Season 2 on Prime (sic)."The first season reimagines King's iconic 1974 debut novel through a modern lens, centring on misfit high-schooler Carrie White, played by Summer H Howell. Having spent her formative years sheltered inside her home by her fiercely protective, devout mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), Carrie's life spirals after her father’s sudden death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school.Rather than sticking strictly to a period setting, the narrative navigates contemporary anxieties — tracking a viral bullying scandal that tears through Carrie's community, the casual cruelty of the social-media age, and the terrifying awakening of her latent telekinetic powers alongside her adolescence.Crucially, the Season 1 finale departs from the original book's grim climax. Instead of succumbing to a fatal stabbing, Carrie survives the bloody ordeal and ends the season riding in the passenger seat of her friend Emaline's (Thalia Dudek) car, escaping her town for an unknown destination.Flanagan, who previously directed four episodes of the opening season including the premiere and finale, will continue steering the narrative arc into unexplored territory for Season 2.India Today, in its review for the film, wrote, "This is a high-school story that offers goosebumps rather than butterflies. For horror purists, it may feel too restrained, but for viewers open to a darker coming-of-age drama, Flanagan’s Carrie offers plenty. It takes a familiar story, updates its anxieties for the social media age and lands best when it trusts its characters over its shocks."All eight episodes of Carrie Season 1 are currently streaming on Prime Video.- Ends
