However that doesn't mean Carey Mulligan is a fan of music in the home. The actress, 41, has in fact banned any tunes from being played at their home because she says it's too distracting. The singer, 39, revealed: 'We had a party – it was Carey's birthday – and someone was, like, "There's no music!" I was, like, "Yeah, we don't really play music."'The singer, who married the Great Gatsby star in 2012, added: 'If music's on, I want to lean in and listen to it. I can't switch that part of my brain off. They stayed in touch through letters before losing contact for about 10 years. The couple later reconnected when Carey was 24, and they married in 2012.The pair share three children, Evelyn, 10, Wilfred, 8, and another daughter who was born in late 2023. Speaking on Good Morning Britain she said: 'We ended up going to the same summer camp when we were kids so we became pen pals after and that's how we kept in touch, we didn't have phones!''We used to fax a bit when fax machines were cool! We need to get kids back doing the pen pal thing again. It's a good thing.''Then there was about ten years when we lost touch and then we reconnected.'Carey previously admitted that she didn't think Marcus was 'boyfriend material' when they first met as children. The singer revealed: ' We had a party – it was Carey's birthday – and someone was, like, "There's no music!" 'I was, like, "Yeah, we don't really play music"' (pictured performing in July)She confessed that although she thought he was the 'kindest person' she'd ever met, she also wrote in her diary at the time that he 'definitely wasn't boyfriend material'.Speaking on the Smartless podcast, she hilariously explained: 'I wrote in my diary that he was the nicest, the kindest person I'd ever met and I gave him 9 1/2 out of 10.''I also wrote in my diary that he definitely wasn't boyfriend material. I mean not that I'd ever had a boyfriend at that time. But I decided that he was not it,' she added.Though they never dated in their teenage years, Carey remained in contact with Marcus after camp and they were pen pals for a few years before losing touch.However, they later got back in touch as adults when they added each other on Facebook, prompting them to meet up again when Carey was 24.She shared: 'What's weird is that we also not long after we met again as adults, we both worked on the Coen Brothers movie Inside Llewyn Davis and were both independently hired.'
