First Released Systems Leave a Review Overview Score Published Aug 4, 2026, 12:00 PM EDT Discover the heartwarming story of Capy and Corvi in this cozy exploration adventure game, uncovering emotions you wouldn't expect. Capy Castaway has been on the wishlists and minds of many people who love all things cozy, and it is finally here. Ever since it was shown off at the Wholesome Direct last June, many eager players, like myself, have been waiting for the colorful story of this lost baby capybara and its crow friend. But now that it's here, is it worth investing the time and money in? I already knew the game would be a sweet story and a fun, light adventure after previewing a demo of Capy Castaway a couple of months ago. Now, I have just finished playing through the full game thanks to an early review copy, so I can give you all a breakdown of the good, the bad, and the cute. What Cozy Castaway Is About Cozy Castaway is a cozy exploration adventure game where we get to take on the role of a young capybara named Capy, and its new friend, Corvi. The game starts after Capy wakes up on a strange island that's cluttered with trash and ruined buildings. Corvi shows up, and we learn that a massive flood destroyed the zoo where Capy lived. Corvi, who has been all alone for quite some time, is eager to work with Capy in exploring the island and eventually finding your way up to meet the dragon high up on a perch, who surely can get you home again. While the duo makes their way across broken-up islands filled with garbage and signs of devastation, they meet several quirky and unique NPCs who need some help. Including, for some reason, a few talking signs. Most of the animals that you meet are all from the zoo and know Capy well. Each has their own feelings about the flood, and they often share their heartaches as well as small problems that Corvi and Capy can help with. The Gameplay Of Cozy Castaway Is Calming And Fun Playing Capy Castaway feels like a light, relaxing journey, with most of your time spent walking around colorful islands and picking up trash if you choose. The trash seemed mostly optional, but seeing so much litter in such a lovely place certainly prompted me to clean up. Many things were interactive, such as swinging on some of the swings, but overall, the world of interconnected islands is very small. Each of the NPCs feels like friends you would want to get to know better. Despite the tragedy they are all facing, everyone still had a desire to check on and help each other. Perhaps the silliest part of the game, and one that leads to several achievements, is that, in true capybara fashion, Capy can stack things on their head. While this got annoying after a while, it was fun to see how many things I could stack and still move around easily. A couple of plushies, including a cat who looks identical to my own cat at home, remained on my Capy's head for the majority of the game, but the rest were disposed of after I got the achievements. You can play the game multiplayer with two people, with one person controlling Corvi and the other controlling Capy, but I unfortunately was unable to try this. Instead, playing solo, you control both characters, though Corvi is often just riding on Capy's back until you need him. Some Glitches Did Make Things Rough Sadly, I do have a couple of negative thoughts. While the game was overall a very fun time, I ran into several glitches, both big and small. For a game that only took me around 5 hours to beat, the number of issues that came up felt overly frustrating. Some things were easily overlooked, such as the fish appearing to swim around Capy while on land, when I'm pretty sure they should have stayed in the water. However, there were many times when I would finish a quest or objective, and the game didn't register it, even after having a long dialog with the NPCs. I would have to close the game and restart it in order to finish the quest. Also, there is a garbage-loving raccoon NPC that my game apparently really liked. Often it would replay his long conversation, with the text just appearing on my screen even if I was nowhere near him, and I had already gone through the chat with him when it was supposed to happen. None of it was game-breaking, but it was certainly immersion-breaking. Hopefully, the glitches I experienced will be corrected at launch, since I was playing an early build of the game. Cozy Castaway Runs Well On Steam Deck I tried Cozy Castaway on both PC and Steam Deck and can say that both worked just fine. The only small hiccup I noticed in playing on the Steam Deck was that I had to press down the right joystick to talk to Corvi sometimes, and that could too easily make Corvi move away instead. I imagine this would also come up if played using a controller, and it certainly wasn't a big deal once I was aware of what was happening. The Story Is Heartwarming And Wholesome Overall, the story of Cozy Castaway is a sweet one that touches lightly on some very heavy and wholesome topics. Whether helping three kids with the grief of knowing their dad died saving them from the flood, or helping to either strengthen or break up a troubled relationship between two buffalo, the short bits of story told are enough to present a much bigger picture. There are many cute elements to it, and the vibrant art style and wholesome topics it hits on are all very well done. Capy Castaway releases on Steam on August 6, 2026.
