I do not write about all offers that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). Terms apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.Capital One has a new limited-time offer for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card: 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in purchases within three months of account opening, plus $300 toward hotels and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel during your first cardholder year. The annual fee is $95. That’s a strong upfront return for a card with a fee under $100, with potentially $300 more value than before. But I do value the $300 credit less than cash. The new $300 is a one-time lodging credit. Here’s how it works: Apply it at checkout inside Capital One Travel toward hotel or vacation rental bookings. Flights and rental cars don’t qualify. Use it all on one booking or spread it across several. It expires one year after account opening and doesn’t renew annually. You won’t earn miles from your card spend on the amount covered by the credit. If you cancel the booking, the credit is restored only if it hasn’t expired. Canceling after expiration won’t get it back. Your account must remain open and in good standing to receive or use it. I’d compare the portal’s total price with the same property booked directly before assigning the credit its full face value. And these are third party bookings that may not earn hotel loyalty program points or status credit (I’ve had good luck getting Marriott properties to honor status benefits on third party bookings, for what it’s worth). Capital One’s advertised “more than $1,000 in travel value” is straightforward: 75,000 miles redeemed against travel purchases at one cent each gives you $750, plus the $300 lodging credit, or $1,050 before the annual fee. Subtract $95 and that’s $955, assuming you use the entire credit at face value. You’ll also earn miles on the spending needed to qualify. At the card’s base earning rate of two miles per dollar, $4,000 in purchases earns another 8,000 miles. That brings you to at least 83,000 miles plus the $300 credit. At one cent per mile, that’s $1,130 in travel value before the fee, or $1,035 after it. The extra 8,000 miles are spending rewards, rather than part of the welcome bonus. You don’t have to book through Capital One Travel to use the miles this way. You can pay for eligible travel with the card and redeem miles to cover the purchase within 90 days. But I don’t use my Capital One points this way at all. I transfer them to airlines. The current offer excludes anyone who received a new cardmember bonus on either Venture or Venture X in the past 48 months. That measures when you received the bonus, rather than when you opened or closed the account. Someone who earned a Venture X bonus in 2023 is excluded from this Venture bonus even if they’ve only had Venture X and never had Venture.
