Cancer-causing asbestos found in popular Amazon toy sold in UK as shoppers warned ‘stop using immediately’

A POPULAR sand toy has been pulled from Amazon over fears it contains asbestos. Users have been urged to stop using the sand bottles immediately, and to contact their local authority for disposal advice. Sand inside the bottles were found to be contaminated with small quantities of asbestos, causing it to be pulled from sale. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The sand art bottles, manufactured by Anthony Peters Mfg Co Ltd, were said to have originated in China with the Amazon code B0B15J7N2B. Recall information published by the OPSS is yet to specify how long this sand art kit was on sale before it was recalled by Amazon. Over the past seven months, 183 other asbestos-contaminated craft kits, children’s toys, and novelty doorstops have been pulled from shelves, with a long list of renowned British retailers impacted. This includes seven other sand art bottles and craft kits, sold and distributed by Habico Ltd, Kids Create, KTL (Kandy Toys), and more. For any product containing asbestos, the owner should stop using them immediately. If the sand is still in its packaging, it must be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-taped, labelled and stored out the reach of children. Most read in The Sun When the sand has been used, sites where it has spilled should be cleaned using wet cloths, wearing gloves and a mask – then, the cleaning equipment must be bagged securely in the same way. Children should be kept away from the affected areas until they are completely clean. Amazon has yet to publish any information regarding refunds, so the OPSS has directed customers to contact their local authority for information on how to safely dispose of asbestos. It has been illegal to import, export, sell, or use any forms of asbestos in the UK since 1999 due to well-known evidence that the substance is harmful, even in small quantities.
