Canada slams Iran for 'destabilizing actions', says it will maintain 'significant pressure' on Tehran

Canada has slammed Iran for what it called "destabilizing actions in the Middle East", and vowed to maintain "significant pressure" on Tehran. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said in a joint statement that Ottawa is "working closely with partners, including within G7, to maintain significant pressure on Iran". This includes support for efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and continued sanctions on Iran, such as the US-led Operation Economic Outcast, the statement indicated. The two ministers said that Canada has sanctioned 492 Iranian individuals and entities under the Special Economic Measures Act and the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act since 2010. The ministers added that the country will continue to seek "additional measures" with global partners to force Tehran to end its "malign behavior".
