You can reach them at James.t@thegamer.com Call of Duty fans have pulled off some real wizardry with the original Modern Warfare 2: cross-platform multiplayer between PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, without mods or jailbroken consoles."No tricks, no mods, and best of all, cross-play has no hackers, built-in anti-cheat, and moderation," the Classics team announced. "And you can see everyone's platform directly in the game [...] Cross-play has been made easier than ever for all three platforms to join."While the team hasn't disclosed exactly how it works, the setup uses custom 4v4 ranked servers featuring Search & Destroy, Demolition, Capture the Flag, and Headquarters. Players climb through six ranks, from Bronze to Master, earning 15–35 points for a win and losing roughly the same amount when beaten. There are even warm-up matches to keep you busy while you wait.Classics claims the setup is "safer than normal matchmaking," with developer Shawstin explaining on Reddit that they're "actively patching any exploit or security issue" they find. "All player data is flowed through a dedicated server, so if an exploit does come to light, then I will be able to look at the data and patch it quickly," they said. Shawstin was also asked whether the whole thing is above board, arguing that "it's not illegal to host a Minecraft server and this is basically the same thing. Hopefully everyone sees it that way too!" Unfortunately, not everyone does. How To Join A Cross-Platform Modern Warfare 2 Server Joining a game takes very little work. On PS3, enter "136.55.43.79" as both your primary and secondary DNS, launch Modern Warfare 2, search for a game, and you'll be placed into a cross-platform match. Xbox 360 players have it even easier: search for the gamertag 'Classicsgg' and select 'Join Session In Progress' to start matchmaking. And on PC, you only need to click the link https://classics.gg/steam and the game will launch automatically into the lobby. Classics also works with emulators. However, PC players will need a paid Discord subscription to get involved. "A paid subscription makes cheating on PC much harder to get away with (a banned account can't just start over for free), and it helps for the servers ranked runs on," Classics explains.
