Calicut University to have panel on FYUGP facilitation

A facilitation and resolution committee has been proposed at the University of Calicut (CU) to address the concerns of teachers and students related to the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP).According to Lekshmi R. Chandran, a Syndicate member and convener of a university steering committee on FYUGP, the move follows directions from the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC). She told The Hindu on Sunday (September 6) that a meeting of the committee would be held on September 11, where a detailed action plan would be discussed.The KSHEC recently came out with an action plan for the effective implementation of the programme after detailed discussions with Vice-Chancellors, Syndicate members, and steering committee conveners in the universities. Sources said that the plan takes into account preparations for the one-year and two-year postgraduate degree programmes to be launched in the future, along with ensuring a smooth shift into the FYUGP, which was launched in State universities on July 1, 2024.According to the plan, an online survey will be undertaken in colleges this month to count the number of students who wish to continue in the fourth year of the FYUGP and those who plan to complete the course in the third year by choosing the exit option. A State-level master training programme would be held on the Ahalia campus in Palakkad on September 15 and 16. KSHEC vice-chairperson Achuthsankar S. Nair and member secretary Abida Farooqui will lead the sessions.The universities will publish a list of colleges that have the academic infrastructure to offer honours and honours with research courses by November 1. Boards of studies have been directed to complete the preparation of the syllabus for the new PG courses and four-year courses by December 1. Guidelines for exiting the FYUGP, including options for correcting their decisions within 30 days, too, will be issued around the same time.
