Home Minister and Kalaburagi district in charge Priyank Kharge | Photo Credit: File photo The State Cabinet has approved two irrigation and water conservation projects for Kalaburagi district, involving a total outlay of ₹105.2 crore, Home Minister and Kalaburagi district in charge Priyank Kharge said on Thursday.In a media note released from Bengaluru, Mr. Kharge said the Cabinet, in its meeting presided over by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, approved a ₹56-crore lift irrigation project to fill 12 tanks in Aland taluk with water drawn from the Boli river and a ₹49.2-crore project for taking up various minor irrigation and water conservation works in different parts of Kalaburagi districtMr. Kharge said the Aland project, which had received administrative approval in 2023-24, envisages lifting 28.94 million cubic feet (mcft) of water to the 12 tanks. The project will include a pumping system, pump house, power substation, pipelines, and a distribution network.The works in the other project include development of tanks, nalas, and other water sources, construction of a series of check dams, and deepening and widening of nalas to improve water storage and groundwater recharge across the district.Mr. Kharge said the two projects would strengthen irrigation infrastructure in the district, improve utilisation of available water, and increase water storage capacity through tanks and nalas.“The government has given priority to the overall development of Kalaburagi district. The Cabinet approval for these two major irrigation and water conservation projects is an important step towards the development of farmers and rural areas.
