A young woman jumped into the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district after telling people on the bridge that she had decided to end her life.The woman, identified as Payal Devi, daughter of Krishan Lal, had gone to a fair and was returning home on a motorcycle with a known person from her village when the incident occurred.DUPATTA GOT STUCK IN MOTORCYCLEAccording to reports, Payal's dupatta became caught in the motorcycle while she was travelling with the man. The rider stopped the two-wheeler to remove the dupatta.It was during this time that Payal reportedly moved towards the edge of the Prem Nagar bridge. She then told people present there that she was going to end her life.The people on the bridge tried to reason with her and urged her not to take the extreme step. The man accompanying her also called her father and informed him about what was happening.'BYE BYE PAPA', WOMAN TELLS FATHER Payal spoke to her father over the phone after he was informed about the incident.During the conversation, she told him that it was her life and that she had decided to end it.Her reported last words to her father were, "Bye Bye Papa."She then jumped from the bridge into the Chenab river.Following the incident, local residents, police teams and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search operation to trace Payal.However, her body has not been found so far, and the search operation is underway.- EndsWith inputs from Sunil KumarPublished On: Sep 6, 2026 16:00 IST
