Bus driver shot dead outside south London pub named by police

A 25-year-old bus driver who was shot dead outside a pub in south London has been named by police.The attack occurred on Monday evening, when gunshots were heard near the venue in Willington Road, Clapham.A man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Metropolitan Police have now named the victim as 25-year-old Auguste-Marie Bile-aka Amoa.Shortly after the shooting, a 22-year-old man attended hospital with a gunshot wound and was arrested on suspicion of murder, according to the force. He remains in hospital under police guard.Police officers in forensic suits at the scene of the shooting on Willington Road in Clapham (Jonathan Brady/PA)Detective chief inspector Claire Guiver, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Bile-aka’s family as they come to terms with this tragic incident.“We continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.“If you were in the area at the time of the shooting, witnessed anything suspicious or have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage that could assist our investigation, we urge you to get in touch.“Any piece of information could prove vital in helping us piece together the full circumstances.”Speaking near the scene, a friend of the victim described him as a “cool guy”, adding that he believed the death was the result of “wrong place, wrong time”.He said: “I don’t have bad things to say about him. He’s a cool guy, like I said, bus driver, hard-working. It’s shocking because of who he is and his character.”Officers in forensic suits at the scene outside Lopez House on Willington Road (Jonathan Brady/PA)Police remained at the scene on Tuesday, with a cordon in place near The Landor pub, at the junction of Willington Road and Landor Road.Several bouquets of flowers were laid and a candle was lit near its entrance.A 26-year-old woman living nearby said she heard four gunshots and initially thought it was the sound of a car backfiring.She said: “There was a guy lying on the ground, lots of blood around him. There were loads of people around him, I went and helped. The shooting was nothing to do with the pub, it was outside.“We have never had trouble here, but lately this area of Clapham has got worse. People seem to have lost their minds.”
