Burger King has a little-known breakfast menu (Picture: NIKLAS HALLE’N/AFP via Getty Images) Did you know that Burger King sells breakfast? If your answer is no, don’t be too disheartened. I write about fast food for a living and only learned of its existence in June. The chain has been serving brekkie across the UK for more than 30 years, yet hardly anyone seems to know about its early morning menu. You might assume this means the food sucks, but according to reviews on social media, it’s ‘sensational’ and ‘categorically better than McDonald’s’. So why on earth isn’t Burger King screaming about it from the rooftops? Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. I first stumbled across Burger King’s breakfast on TikTok. The discovery came courtesy of @ellisetiax, who posted a video claiming Burger King makes the ‘best and most affordable’ breakfast out there. She then proceeded to film herself eating golden hash brown bites and an egg & cheese butty, slipping a few hash browns inside her sandwich for good measure. The clip went viral, garnering more than 430,000 views, and hundreds of comments from baffled Brits. ‘I genuinely didn’t know Burger King did breakfast??? WTF,’ replied @justme123ii. While @chantelllerose said: ‘Girl this is news to me.’ ‘They definitely don’t advertise enough,’ @sugarandspiceox added. And she’s right, they don’t advertise enough. In fact, they don’t advertise the breakfast menu at all. There’s no mention of it whatsoever on the official UK website or social channels, and you won’t spot any promo for it on billboards, TV, or in magazines. The Breakfast King is the star of the early morning menu (Picture: Nikolai Buroh) It all seems incredibly mysterious, so I asked Burger King what’s going on, and was told that the breakfast menu isn’t actively promoted because it isn’t available everywhere. The chain has almost 600 locations across the UK, but only around 100 of these places offer breakfast. Burger King couldn’t provide a full list of all 100 locations upon request, but a spokesperson did confirm that all of the new restaurant openings and remodelled locations serve breakfast. You’re also likely to find the menu at larger restaurants in city centres, such as the one in London’s Leicester Square. As for when breakfast is served, BK wouldn’t tell me that either, with a spokesperson sharing a rather vague line about timings ‘varying between restaurants’. What they did share, though, were the exact items on the breakfast menu and the prices – which do look to be cheaper than Maccies. Metro tried a selection of the breakfast items (Picture: Courtney Pochin) What’s on Burger King’s breakfast menu? The selection includes the Breakfast King, which is a breakfast butty with sausage, bacon, egg, and cheese inside, as well as the Ultimate Breakfast with sausage, bacon, and egg. There’s also an Egg & Cheese Butty, a Bacon & Egg Butty, a Sausage & Egg Butty, a plain Bacon or Sausage Butty, and Hash Browns. Prices start from just £1.79, and there are several Butty Deals available from £3.49, which include a sandwich and a drink. What did Metro think of the food? The hash browns are wonderful (Picture: Courtney Pochin) A selection of these items were sent over to Metro HQ for a taste test, and the team had pretty mixed reactions. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting to like the food, having never really been much of a Burger King fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Egg & Cheese Butty isn’t anything groundbreaking, just classic fast food fare, but it really hit the spot. The bread was soft, the egg nice and fluffy, and the American cheese gloriously melty. It was just on the right side of hearty, filling me up without making me feel greasy and disgusting, which I really appreciated. As for the mini Hash Browns, these are wonderful when freshly cooked, but you’ll want to eat them pretty sharpish – the longer you leave them, the chewier they start to get. The Egg & Cheese hit the spot (Picture: Courtney Pochin) Deputy TV editor, Thomas Percival, gave the Breakfast King a try and hailed it a ‘triumph’. He said: ‘I must confess I knew before I’d even tasted the Breakfast King that it was going to be good. The clue was that the paper wrapped around it was covered in grease and turned pleasingly translucent. ‘As expected, the Breakfast King was a high-calorie triumph, boasting all the ingredients key to starting the day off right. The sausage was delicious, and the bacon complemented it well; the cheese was suitably plasticky, and the egg was sort of just there, but I enjoyed it anyway. ‘Pro-tip, though: it needs ketchup.’ Which fast food chain do you think seves the best breakfast? The lack of sauce was a sticking point with a few other people who tried the food, with video producer Jed Bradley sharing: ‘Bacon Butty was a let down with zero sauce and not an ounce of butter.’ US news reporter Sarah Hooper also wasn’t wowed by the lack of sauce in the Sausage & Egg Butty, which she felt was ‘mid’. ‘Solid as a basic breakfast item, but didn’t stand out to me. It could do with a bit of hot sauce. The sausage is pretty good, but the bun is basic,’ she added. Will you be trying Burger King’s breakfast? Let us know in the comments.
