Published: 20:35 EDT, 4 November 2026 | Updated: 20:44 EDT, 4 November 2026 Burger King are believed to have handed out thousands of their beloved Whoppers to customers last week - but the fun was put to an end after one man reported the app glitch to the chain. Overjoyed customers found they could add any number of extra burgers to the two for £12 Whopper meal, at no extra cost. The app 'glitch' which allowed users to get the additional burgers for free was part of an offer which began in April and has been running periodically for years. But the free-flowing burger joy ended when one man complained of the app error to Burger King directly. On October 30, Paul Martin first attempted to notify the popular fast food chain of the issue, writing on social media: '@BurgerKingUK can someone reach out to me. I have found a serious bug in your apps and kiosks. I've tried contacting via the usual channels, but being ignored.' Mr Martin's request went unanswered, as he then posted on X three days later that he had managed to buy 18 Whoppers, 18 portions of fries and 18 drinks from the chain's branch on The Strand in Central London for just £26.54 - when it should have cost £188.82. An app error last week allowed users to add extra burgers to the Whopper meal for free He added: 'Let's see how long it takes them to fix now' in the viral post, which reached more than 1.6million people on X and got nearly 5,000 likes. Burger King quickly replied: 'Hey, cheers for getting in touch! Thanks for sharing this Paul. We're going to raise this with the team to investigate.' Within three hours of Mr Martin's complaint, the company removed the error from its app. Mr Martin added to the company that he had complained multiple times 'via your website, email and social media over the past week' and had received no reply. People responded with outcry, with one user writing: '19 Whoppers if you include yourself!' and another: 'You had a chance to solve world hunger Paul'. Another wrote: 'You could have been Robin Hood', while one user added: 'Paul why would you betray us like this.' The Daily Mail has approached Burger King for comment.
