Budget airline launches new route to winter sun resort loved by Brits – that’s great for families with highs of 22C

WIZZ Air will start a new route to a coastal city with winter highs of 22C and bright blue seas in a few months. It’s said to be ideal for families too thanks to its thrilling waterparks and enormous resorts. In January, temperatures in Hurghada reach average highs of 22C – whereas in the UK daily highs sit around a chilly 7C. It’s also a great option for a family break thanks to its huge resorts that offer all-inclusive packages and have lots of swimming pools. Hotels like the Pickalbatros Aqua Park Resort or Serenity Fun City Resort have pools with waterslides and plenty of sunloungers. One Sun Writer and her family checked into the five-star all-inclusive Jaz Aquaviva which has its own on-site waterpark. Makadi Water World has 50 rides and guests get unlimited access. She said: “Only 30 minutes’ drive from Hurghada International Airport, Jaz Aquaviva has a kids’ club, miniature arcade, tennis court, ping-pong table, gym, aqua aerobics and an animation team. Most read in Travel “There is also a spa and four pools, including the adults-only rooftop for those of us who prefer to flop onto a sunlounger rather than plummet down the Turbo Tunnel before lunch. “The hotel’s buffet restaurant Amaraya is one of the largest I’ve been to, with freshly baked bread, salad, spice and grill stations, and local and international cuisine.” The Red Sea beaches have coral reefs and shallow waters Credit: Alamy The beaches along the coastline are a mix of golden and white sand, lots have shallow waters which are ideal for paddling. Its position along the Red Sea means that it also has beautiful coral reefs and there are lots of opportunities to go snorkelling or diving. The new route will have weekly flights on Mondays from January 11, 2027 with prices from £91.99. Hurghada will become Wizz Air‘s second Egyptian destination from Gatwick after Sharm El Sheikh. Wizz Air UK Managing Director Yvonne Moynihan said: “As the scorcher of a summer draws to a close, the rain returns, and thoughts turn to escaping the colder months ahead, our new Hurghada route is welcome news for anyone already dreaming of their next dose of sunshine. “Egypt’s Red Sea coast has so much to offer, whether you want to relax on the beach, discover its incredible marine life or explore somewhere new. “With Hurghada joining our existing Gatwick service to Sharm El Sheikh, our customers will have even more choice when it comes to an affordable winter escape.
