Brydon Carse to face no charges over alleged nightclub assault after England cricketer led away in handcuffs

BRYDON Carse will face no further police action after a woman insisted she did not want to take a complaint further. Carse has not played for England since, with the seamer dropped from the Test squad to face Pakistan at Lord’s, although he has continued to play for Durham. A Derbyshire police statement said: “An investigation into reports of an assault in Derby city centre has been closed. “A man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and was then de-arrested after his details were taken by officers. “Following the man leaving the area, staff from the bar told officers there had been an allegation that a woman had been touched inappropriately over her clothing. “The victim had asked for help from bar staff and the man was removed from the venue. “However, before officers could speak to the woman, she had left the bar. “Enquiries were made to identify the woman and she was eventually identified and spoken to. Most read in Sport “She confirmed that she did not want to make any complaint and, in line with her wishes, no further action was taken. “In line with crime recording standards, the incident was recorded on the force software as a sexual assault.” Carse still faces a probe from the Cricket Regulator and white-ball coach Brendon McCullum this week said the England contracted player needed to “get his house in order.” He continued: “We know he’s an excellent cricketer who has done well when he’s played for England. “It’s a good chance for him now to push for selection for the next opportunity that arises.” Images of Carse being led away from the Derby nightclub went viral on August 24, with Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts visible in the background. The England men’s cricket team have endured a turbulent last 24 months, with results overshadowed by alcohol-fuelled off-field incidents. Following victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Lord’s, then captain Stokes and seamer Gus Atkinson breached protocols by staying out past a new midnight curfew. While celebrating at The Rex Rooms nightclub in Chelsea, a brawl broke out with an academy player from Saracens rugby club. An England Cricket Board security guard accompanying them was struck and needed stitches. It resulted in both players being dropped for the second Test and Stokes later announcing his shock retirement from international cricket amid internal turmoil. McCullum was sacked as Test coach shortly after. Last October, England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook was involved in a fracas with a bouncer outside a New Zealand club. The batting ace was struck by the security guard, and subsequently handed a £30,000 fine and final warning regarding his future conduct.
