Bryce Young: Contract's out of my control, I'm just about football

Published September 10, 2026 09:56 AM Panthers owner David Tepper weighed in on quarterback Bryce Young’s future on Wednesday. When the Panthers drafted Young first overall in 2023, Tepper said he thought Young gave the team a chance to win multiple Super Bowls and he said Wednesday that he still feels that way “with the right weapons and the right situation” around the quarterback. That feeling did not lead the team to sign Young to a contract extension ahead of his fourth season, which is something Young says will not be on his mind when he takes the field against the Bears this weekend. “For me, it’s just about football; all that stuff happens. It’s outside my control,” Young said, via the team’s website. “All that stuff, other people and upstairs and agents, all that. It’s season time. We’re going into Week 1; that’s all that matters. We have all the inspiration. There’s a great challenge ahead of us, and our first opponent, so that’s all that I have the capacity to be focused on.”The Panthers did exercise their option on Young’s contract for 2027, so he’s not in the final year of his contract but it does feel like his performance this season will play a major role in determining how long Young remains with the teams.
