However, reports surfaced on Friday evening that there has been a hiccup in the move. According to Diario AS, the hold-up is due to “bureaucratic issues” – essentially the paperwork. Arsenal will be hopeful the administrative creases can simply be ironed out quickly before the official announcement and unveiling. Even so, the AS report adds that Guimaraes had his first pre-season session with Mikel Arteta’s squad earlier on Friday. Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in Spain to ask new head coach Matthias Jaissle for a move away. Once permission was granted, he flew to London for his Arsenal medical. But once they guaranteed the entire transfer fee, the Toon relented and agreed to sell their influential captain.
