The Boss is supporting the Doc. On the eve of the bitterly fought 2026 midterms, Bruce Springsteen on Monday came out strong for Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. “Dr. El-Sayed is a fighter for our American Constitution, he’s a fighter for our American Democracy, and he’s a fighter against the corrupt, lawless, and anti-American leadership currently in the White House,” the “Born In the USA” singer said on social media. “That’s why I’m in his corner 100%.” A vocal critic of Trump and his authoritarian policies onstage, in song and with his high profile, Springsteen rarely gets this direct for an office seeker if they aren’t running for President. Still, with all the drama surrounding the potentially crucial and tightening Great Lakes State race between El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers, the full-throated endorsement today has the potential to turn up the volume in an already deafening election cycle. Having stumped for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in previous general elections with his greatest hits, Jersey boy Springsteen this year put his politics in to new song with tragic origins. In January, he released the poignant “Streets of Minneapolis” over the killing of two Americans, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in Minnesota by ICE agents. Watch on Deadline Out on tour with the E Street Band this spring, Springsteen railed against Trump night after night. He also took ‘Streets of Minneapolis’ to the city itself as Trump attacked the Rock Hall of Famer online and on-stage as a “very boring singer” who “looks like a dried up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon.” After calling Trump and his cruel crew a “reckless and treasonous administration” over the spring and summer on tour, the 77-year old Springsteen appeared with sometimes bandmate Tom Morello last month at the protest-packed Power to the People festival in Columbia, MD. The daylong show was broadcast on MS NOW and streamed online. Springsteen’s support for El-Sayed comes just hours to go before the polls in Michigan and elsewhere open for Election Day. Estimates are that the Democrats will take the House of Representatives and could, if El-Sayed and a few other critical races go blue, gain previously unimagined control of the Senate — effectively kneecapping Trump’s second term if so. A bombshell of sorts hit Michigan on Sunday, with El-Sayed primary opponent Haley Stevens coming out for Rogers. The bombshell ended up blowing up in the face of Rogers, the GOP and Stevens’ own face after a car crash of a CNN primetime interview with Anderson Cooper went way off the rails. Now tossed out of the Democratic Party in her home state, Stevens on Sunday night abandoned any critique of El-Sayed’s views on Israel, or anything else, to rant about “Why the anger? Why the frustration?” While Stevens no longer has a political career in either blue or red circles, El-Sayed now has Bruce Springsteen in his corner.
