Anand highlighting the growing attacks and atrocities on Dalits in the State and requested measures under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against their recurrence. In a letter submitted to the DGP, the BRS leaders drew the attention of the DGP to the report released by the Telangana SC/ST Commission on October 1 for the last three years stating that 9,102 atrocities cases were registered including 213 murders of SC (159) and ST (54) persons and sexual assault on 1,305 girls and women of the two communities. However, convictions were obtained only in case of 32 cases during the three years and requested the DGP to taka up a high-level review and measures to improve the conviction rate. They stated that the Commission report had also recorded negligence in the registration of cases and also in the collection of evidence due to weak supervision after registration of cases. Even the payment of compensation was being delayed for years, though the provisions specified that it ought to be done without any delay.Giving an account of incidents that had occurred during the last five weeks, the BRS leaders said a dalit youth Chiluka Uday was abducted, taken to a deserted place, stripped and beaten badly near Neerukulla in Sultanabad mandal of Peddapalli district in September. Similarly, on October 2, one Ganipalli Madavi was abused in the name of caste, slapped and pushed to the ground by pulling her hair in P.K Mallepally of Chinthapalli mandal in Nalgonda district.A dalit family was stopped from entering the village temple at Mangampalli in Peddamandadi mandal of Wanaparthy district in October and during the recent Bathukamma celebrations attacks on dalits were reported in Konaipally and Kucharam in Manoharabad mandal, Kishtapur in Toopran mandal, Nawabpet in Shivampet mandal in Medak district. They requested the DGP to order a special drive in all districts on pending cases of atrocities, convene a meeting with Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to review atrocities cases, order an inquiry wherever police personnel were named in such complaints and publish district-wise statistics on cases registered, charge-sheets filed and convictions achieved quarter-wise.
