Brooklyn Street Renamed After Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Putnam Avenue in Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy neighborhood now shares a name with one of the most influential rappers of all time. Yesterday, with an official ceremony that brought together friends, family, and government officials, Putnam Avenue also became ODB Jones Way, named after Wu-Tang Clan co-founder Ol' Dirty Bastard. The hip-hop legend was born Russell Tyrone Jones in Brooklyn's Fort Greene. In a video from NYC photographer Howard Weiss, ODB's brother Ramsey Jones, explained that the sign went up at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Putnam Avenue, on the same block where their grandmother still lives. That block also houses a mural of the cover of ODB's debut album, Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.Check out clips and images below.
