Brokeback Announce New Album Colder, Milder: Hear The Title Track

Doug McCombs is a member of bands like Tortoise and Eleventh Dream Day, and he also leads the minimal, quasi-instrumental rock band Brokeback. Brokeback are not a terribly active group, and their most recent album Illinois River Valley Blues came out a decade ago. But now, Brokeback are, um, back with a forthcoming album called Colder, Milder. Brokeback still have the same lineup as they did in 2017, with Doug McCombs joined by guitarist (and solo artist) James Elkington, bassist Peter Croke, and drummer Areif Sless-Kitain. The band recorded Colder, Milder with McCombs' Tortoise/Sea And Cake bandmate John McEntire. It's got occasional vocals from Amalea Tchilds, as well as strings that were arranged by Elkington and performed by Lia Kohl on cello and Macie Stewart on viola. The late Drive By Jehu/Hot Snakes leader Rick Froberg did the cover art.Right now, the ambling, contemplative Colder, Milder title track only seems to be streaming on the Thrill Jockey Substack, so go ahead and listen to it over there. But the band did preview the song last year. Below, you can watch a video of them playing about a minute of it live, as well as the LP's tracklist.TRACKLIST:01 "Great Danger"02 "Invasion"03 "Colder, Milder"04 "Golden Palm"05 "Blue Elephant, Black Cloud"06 "Ark And Deluge Both"07 "Dead Hands"08 "Pigeon Dreamt A Man"We don't have an exact release date yet, but Colder, Milder is out in early February on Thrill Jockey.
