Brits are ‘beefing’ over the correct nickname for Sainsbury’s

But it seems we can’t all agree on exactly what they should be called – and one place in particular has sparked a fierce argument. The internet is currently ‘beefing’ over what the correct shortened version of Sainsbury’s is. Do you call it Sainos, Sainsbos, or something else entirely? It all started when Josie, a TikTok user who posts as @jozzeeeyyyy, made a video saying: ‘I’m here for one thing and that’s just to confirm that Sainsbury’s for short is Sainos, right everybody? Yeah? That’s what I thought.’ Josie went on to say that she’d been arguing with people about it all week and had heard some ‘heinous’ alternatives and wanted to gauge what others thought. She added that she was ‘happy to start beef’ over the topic, and it certainly seems that she has – more than 95,000 people have watched her video, with hundreds wading into the debate in the comments. Dozens of people are Team Sainos, agreeing that it’s the correct nickname. ‘Sainos is correct’, said Sophie Robinson. While @samuellcarter commented: ‘Sainos is for the big one, and Slocal for Sainsbury’s Local.’ And @scaprilbook felt strongly about it too, writing: ‘Sainos is the only right way, my mother calls it SAINSO, absolutely ghastly if you ask me.’ Some think it should be Sainy-B’s (Picture: Shutterstock / Tea N Bickie Photography) However, many thought it should be Sainsbos (or Sainsbo’s), with @wideawakewesley posting: ‘Sainsbos… and I work for them, so it’s official.’ @gospodinmydak agreed, saying: ‘Always Sainsbos.’ As @kellykatxx stated: ‘It’s Sainsbo’s hun, or not shortened.’ A few people had completely different suggestions for the supermarket’s nickname, including Aldi, who joked it should be ‘say no’. Jamie Smart thought it was ‘Sainy-b’s’ and @helloimalicerose claimed there were different names for different size stores. She suggested: ‘Sainos when normal size. When it’s got clothes and bits in it, it’s Big Sains.’ Other standouts include Sainsbubbles, Sainsbog, just Sains, The Orange One, Sainzzers, Sazzers, Sainsbugs, and Brees. There were also a few people who didn’t believe the retailer’s name should ever be shortened. According to @aaronsayscomedy: ‘Sainsbury’s is not cool enough to deserve a colloquialism.’ What do you call Sainsbury's? But what is the correct nickname? We asked Sainsbury’s to confirm, and it turns out there isn’t one. A Sainsbury’s spokesperson told Metro: ‘Like all good debates, this one may never truly be settled. While there’s no official nickname for Sainsbury’s, we’re pleased to know we’re on a nickname basis with so many shoppers, whether they’re Team Sainos or Team Sainsbos. ‘As for which one deserves the crown, we’ll leave that to the public to decide!’ Do you have a story you’d like to share?
