A BRITISH women’s fashion chain has launched a 30 per cent off sale ahead of closing a town centre store for good. Shoppers will have until the middle of September to snap up a bargain, with the chain set to close a numbe of its stores in the coming weeks. The fashion label has advertised its last day of trading as the middle of September, with the entire store closing down on Wednesday, September 16. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! Currently, the town centre store is covered in posters advertising its 30 per cent off closing down sale. Statements on the side also thank River Island’s regular Dorset customers, reading: “Thanks for shopping with us – we’ve had a blast! Love, RI.” This comes a matter of days after the retailer announced it would shut two of its city centre sites in September, including its Oxford Street store in Swansea and its Sheffield location at The Moor. Last year, the retailer said that it would shut 33 stores across the country as part of a major restructuring strategy, and ask for rent reductions in 71 more. Shoppers have expressed their dismay over the upcoming River Island closure, with one customer describing it as a “sad day”. The fashion brand initially relocated to Bournemouth’s Commercial Road back in 2014 in a move that hoped to put the retailer closer to its “main competitors”.
