British supermarket chain is giving away free shopping to 10,000 customers across 173 stores

A POPULAR supermarket has launched a promotion where customers will have their entire shopping paid for. The promotion is running across 173 stores and will see 10,000 customers receive their shopping for free. Lucky Customers will be selected at random to have their shopping paid for Credit: Alamy Southern Co-op’s ‘Pop in and win’ promotion is set to end in under a month, concluding on August 21. Customers don’t have to do anything, as the lucky winner will be selected automatically at random when paying at staffed or self-service checkouts at the supermarket. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! There are some items that are excluded from the promotion, however, meaning customers will have to pay for these items. Some of the items not included are alcohol, tobacco, baby formula, lottery tickets, gift cards, fuel, as well as a range of other services. The campaign is available at Southern Co-op-owned food stores but excludes its franchised Welcome shops and home-delivery orders. As part of the promotion, Southern Co-op will also donate £1 to the Retail Trust for every free shop awarded, a maximum contribution of £10,00. The Retail Trust charity provides financial, emotional and practical support to people working across the retail industry. As well as this promotion, shoppers can also enter an online draw without making a purchase. This will see 50 winners receive a £30 Southern Co-op gift card.
