A BRITISH supercar maker is to create 1,000 just days after Jaguar Land Rover announced it was axing 4,000 roles. McLaren is to create the roles as part of a £450million investment in its tech centre in Woking. It will come as a relief to Britain’s struggling automotive industry, after JLR confirmed it’s cutting thousands of jobs as part of a major restructuring programme. In a statement, Britain’s biggest carmaker said it would “reduce our global workforce” by around 4,000 roles over the next two years due to “significant challenges” facing the automotive industry and a need to find £1.7billion in savings. The industry is struggling due to pressure from US tariffs, EV targets and competition from Chinese rivals. Earlier this year, Aston Martin announced plans to axe a fifth of its workforce as it looks to save around £40million. It came a year after the company cut 170 jobs after losses widened by a fifth in 2024 and it sold fewer cars than in 2023. And in March, rival Bentley warned that up to 275 jobs are at risk at its famous factory in Crewe, Cheshire. Most read in Money McLaren declined to comment. Comment now
