British stars win big at 2026 Emmys as Widow’s Bay sweeps the board and Matthew Rhys lands two record breaking awards

THIS YEAR’S Emmys saw a British invasion take over the night, as UK stars snapped up gongs left, right and centre. Comedy horror Widow’s Bay swept the board at the star-studded US bash, which saw Welsh actor Matthew Rhys, 51, scoop up two record breaking gongs. One of those lucky recipients was British star Kate O’Flynn, 40, who took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her role of Patricia in the smash hit series. Accepting the award, the actress, who hails from Manchester, said: “Thank you for trusting this Lancashire lass to play a sassy broad like Patricia. “This is the role of a lifetime,” she continued before thanking “my friends and family back home, mum and dad, and the loves of my life, my darling husband and our darling daughter, another sassy broad in the making.” “This is for all the Patricia’s out there. Whilst accepting the award, the Cardiff native poked fun at Widow’s Bay creator, Katie Dippold. Most read in Showbiz Gesturing to the gong, he said: “This is purely because of the depraved and twisted mind of Katie Dippold, and her genius really does live in the recesses of her disturbed brain!” But this wasn’t the only time Matthew accepted an Emmy last night, as the Welsh star made history as the first actor to win two leading acting gongs in different categories in one night. He not only won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy series for Widow’s Bay, but he also took home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Netflix’s The Beast in Me. Meanwhile, these weren’t the only gongs the Brits took home as Scottish director Saul Metzstein, 55, collected the Outstanding Directing for a Drama series trophy for Slow Horses. And last, but not least, Scottish TV host Alan Cumming, 61, took to the stage to accept the Emmy for Best Reality Series for The Traitors USA.
