British pub chain with over 1,600 locations announces closure of ‘busy’ boozer ‘difficult decision’

A BRITISH pub chain has revealed plans to close down a popular branch, in a blow to customers. The bar and restaurant will shutter for good after it was sold by its current owners. Greene King bosses revealed they had made the “difficult decision” to close the TitanCredit: The Titan Greene King will close The Titan in Clydebank. Alongside operating as a bar, it also housed a hotel and function room. News of the closure has left, punters devastated, with one sharing: “Our wedding reception was held there I975. It was a different place then. Been a few times over the years for meals, but Still sorry to hear its closing.” Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! “Always busy anytime I went but it’s [the] sad state of the pub game I suppose,” another chimed. Meanwhile, a third branded the move a “shame” adding the food was excellent. A spokesperson for Greene King told The Scottish Sun: “As part of our pub estate strategy to set us up to deliver sustainable and profitable growth for the future, we have explored all options available to us regarding the future of the Titan. “As a result of this process, we have made the difficult decision to close this pub. “Our team members are aware, and we continue to work closely to support them at this time. “The pub is currently open and trading as usual.” Most read in Money It is the latest blow for punters, with Wetherspoons closing a branch on Peckham High Street after 25-years. The Kentish Drovers, on Peckham High Street, closed permanently on Sunday (September 13), after operating more than half a century as a pub and 25 years as a Wetherspoons.
