On 12 September 2026 Ukraine successfully interdicted a Russian one-way attack uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) in the Black Sea. Ukrainian forces employed a Sargan-3000 US with a mounted gun to destroy the Russian craft before it could pose a threat to Ukrainian sea lines of communication. It is highly unlikely the Russian US was armed with any counter-drone capability. This event almost certainly marks the first time a Russian and Ukrainian US have engaged each other directly. Ukraine has innovatively combined weaponry in its USV fleet. In early 2024, Ukraine began to equip some of its Magura US’s with air to air missiles, which it used to successfully shoot down a Su-30 Russian fighter and a Russian military helicopter in 2025. Ukraine’s latest iteration, displayed on Ukrainian Independence Day in Kyiv on 24 August 2026 is a Magura MV11 designed to intercept Russian uncrewed aerial systems. — Ministry of Defence 🇬🇧 (@DefenceHQ) October 6, 2026 Kyiv Post is Ukraine’s first and oldest English news organization, reporting since 1995.
