British bookshop chain with over 400 stores launches 70% off ‘closing down’ sale as it shuts 19 shops this month alone

A MAJOR high street branch has entered its final days of trading as the store readies to close in just six days’ time. The location is one of 19 confirmed to shut this month alone. The store has six days until it shutters permanently Credit: NQ Staff TG Jones has launched a closing down sale at its Wrexham location, with its storefront displaying “everything must go” clearance signs. This has resulted in the loss of the city’s only full-service Post Office. According to the Leader, everything inside the store is now in the process of being dismantled, with shelving, fixtures and fittings being taken down and sold. The high street branch has also launched a mass discount on all remaining stock, including up to 70 per cent off cards and up to 60 per cent off crafts items. This comes as the owner of TG Jones, Modella Capital, gained approval for a company-wide restructure on July 1, which will see 150 TG Jones stores cease operations across the UK. Of these, there have been 19 confirmed branch closures in September alone. Modella had bought the majority of WHSmith stores in June last year, and rebranded them under the TG Jones name. Most read in Money Now the firm has gone ahead with a “radical restructuring” after stating that the business was “on the brink of insolvency” and “highly distressed”. Following the restructure, it is believed there will be 302 stores left – down from the brand’s 451 previous retail locations. Comment now
