Sign in to your Simple Flying account All of British Airways' Boeing 787s are currently deployed from London Heathrow Airport (LHR), although 787-10s will eventually operate from London Gatwick. In 2026, the oneworld member pulled the so-called Dreamliner, to use the manufacturer's moniker, from five routes from LHR, with a sixth ending soon. Few airlines operate all three variants of the 787, but BA is one of them. Ch-aviation shows that the airline has 43 examples of the type: 18 787-9s (215 and 216 seats), 13 787-10s (256 seats), and 12 787-8s (204 seats). The latter variant, with relatively few seats and a less premium configuration, will play an important role in growing BA's future US network to smaller cities. British Airways Has Pulled The 787 From These Five Routes The UK flag carrier's Dreamliner network from LHR for January to October 2026 was compared to what's scheduled from November onwards. This process identified that the following five routes from the UK's busiest airport have stopped seeing the type. Three have simply switched to other equipment, while one market has been suspended and another has ended completely. Stopped Seeing The 787 On Which Date (From LHR)? LHR To... Variant(s) In 2026 What Equipment Now Operates (November 2026-October 2027)? March 18, 2026 Abu Dhabi 787-8 and 787-9 None, as the route is currently suspended. Theoretically set to return next winter, but that remains to be seen. BA's schedule currently extends to October 31, 2027, with no sign of Abu Dhabi yet. That could easily change. April 24, 2026 Jeddah 787-8 and 787-9 None, as the route has now ended. October 24, 2026 Austin 787-8 and 787-9 A350-1000 and 777-200ER (from March 2027) October 24, 2026 Las Vegas 787-9 A350-1000, 777-200ER (from March 2027), and 777-300ER (January-March 2027) October 24, 2026 Vancouver 787-8 and 787-9 A350-1000 and 777-200ER (from June 2027) Obviously, aircraft deliveries, along with freed-up aircraft, mean the destinations to which they are deployed change. For example, BA started flying the Dreamliner on the very short service from LHR to Madrid in late October 2026, primarily for freight purposes in partnership with Iberia to South America. Last month was also when the type operated new routes from LHR to San Jose, Costa Rica, and Tampa, along with returning to Johannesburg, with the equipment last used there in March 2024. Most significantly, BA will fly the 787-9 to Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur in January 2027, with a daily operation. Newark Will Stop Seeing British Airways' 787s Later This Month Then there's Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), from which it is usually quicker to reach Manhattan than from New York JFK. BA has two daily flights from LHR to EWR. Until November 7, the 235-seat 777-200ER and 256-seat 787-10 each operate daily. However, things will then change. Between November 8 and 10, the 777-200ER will coexist with the 258-seat 777-300ER, before the 787-10 reappears between November 11 and 14. The changes continue thereafter, with the only constant being the presence of the 777-200ER. The Dreamliner's penultimate operation is down for November 20, before the variant reappears on November 30. No 787 flights are currently scheduled beyond then, but that could change. As of November 3, the latest information shows that BA's 787s are collectively scheduled to fly from LHR to 46 destinations. Obviously, some places will only see the equipment at certain times. They include service on the 787-9 to Doha, a route that exists in partnership with Qatar Airways, at the end of next October, along with just six departures on the 787-8 and 787-9 to Nashville next March. In the examined period, all these places will see BA's Dreamliners, whether regularly, seasonally, irregularly, or otherwise. They are Bahrain, Baltimore, Barbados, Bengaluru, Boston, Cape Town, Chennai, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Delhi, Denver, Doha, Dubai (flights resumed on November 3), Houston, Hyderabad, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, and Lagos. Then there's the short hop to Madrid, along with Malé, Melbourne (via Kuala Lumpur), Mexico City, Miami, Montreal, Mumbai, Nairobi, Nashville, New Orleans, New York JFK, Pittsburgh, Portland, Rio de Janeiro, Riyadh, St. Louis, San Francisco, San Jose, Santiago, Seattle, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney (via Singapore), Tampa, Tokyo Haneda, Toronto, and Washington Dulles.
