A BRIT TikToker facing the death penalty in Dubai stabbed her violent boyfriend to death in self-defence after a five-hour drinking session, it is alleged. Brooke George, 23, was arrested after the death of William Treeby, who suffered a single stab wound to the chest at a villa in Dubai on June 21. Brooke admits inflicting the fatal wound – but says she picked up a knife during a struggle after being attacked by Treeby and prevented from leaving. New details from the Dubai Public Prosecution investigation reveal Treeby, who was living in Dubai under the identity Kaspars Aglitis, was wanted in Britain to face trial over a cocaine conspiracy in Kent. Toxicology results cited by the group Detained in Dubai, which is supporting Brooke’s family, show Treeby had a blood alcohol concentration of 188mg/dL, or approximately 0.19 per cent. A UAE forensic expert concluded his level of intoxication was sufficient to affect his “awareness, perception and reactions”, according to the case material. Investigators also documented fresh bruising and an injury to Brooke’s left eye which campaigners say was consistent with witness accounts that Treeby had punched her during the journey home from a bar. Most read in The Sun The evidence provides the most detailed account yet of the hours preceding Treeby’s death – and is expected to be central to Brooke’s claim that she was defending herself. CCTV cited in the investigation shows Brooke, Treeby and a friend arriving at McCafferty’s in Jumeirah Village Circle at around 3.23pm on June 21. They remained there for several hours drinking before leaving at around 8pm. According to the prosecution investigation, Treeby was “agitated” and “angry” and at one stage had to be calmed by his friend. Brooke told investigators she had returned to the villa to collect her handbag before leaving the country. She said that when she opened an upstairs bedroom door, she found Treeby holding a knife. Brooke told investigators she said she was leaving but Treeby refused to let her go and tried to push her. She claims the knife fell during a struggle in which their friend intervened, before she picked it up and stabbed Treeby once. A witness subsequently described Brooke as “crying hysterically”, according to the material released by Detained in Dubai. She fled to Dubai airport with her bag, where staff noticed her injuries and emotional state. Police records cited by the campaign group describe her as being in “shock”. She initially remained silent before cooperating with investigators and giving her account of what had happened. Forensic examination recorded fresh bruising and injury around her left eye as well as several other injuries which had been sustained during the preceding days. Brooke also made an allegation about what had been happening privately during her relationship with Treeby. When confronted with witness claims that Treeby had treated her kindly, she told investigators: “He sometimes assaults me when I refuse to have sex with him.” Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, said: “This is not a case where Brooke denies causing the fatal injury. “The question is why it happened and whether she was defending herself. “The prosecution’s own evidence confirms that Treeby was heavily intoxicated, had punched Brooke shortly beforehand, was angry and agitated, and had thrown her belongings throughout the villa. “Brooke was subsequently described as hysterical and in shock. “She is now facing a potential death sentence and it is imperative that her allegations of violence and her account of self defence receive the most rigorous examination before any irreversible judgment is made.” Stirling also raised concerns about witnesses who have since left the UAE. She said: “It is extremely difficult to secure a fair hearing in the UAE, particularly when key witnesses have left the country and are no longer available to be cross examined. “Where a young woman is facing the possibility of capital punishment, every witness and every piece of evidence must be subjected to the highest level of scrutiny.” Brooke’s family said she was “very stressed and panicking” ahead of next month’s hearing, adding: “She’s scared.” Comment now
