Brit soldier dies on holiday in Bali as devastated family face ‘unimaginable pain’ after ‘worst nightmare’

A BRITISH soldier has died while on holiday in Bali with his heartbroken loved ones facing “every family’s worst nightmare”. Finlay John Perkins, known to close friends as Fin, was on a trip to the popular tourist island in Indonesia when he passed away on August 9. His devastated family said they hoped the holiday would be filled with laughter and treasured memories when they jetted out of the UK earlier this month. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! It quickly turned into a nightmare when a young and healthy Finlay tragically died. Finlay, from the Milton Keynes area, has been remembered as a caring and selfless soldier who always put others first. A GoFundMe appeal was launched to cover the cost of repatriating the soldier back home. Over £17,000 has been raised so far from over 550 donors. The family have now paused the donations as they honoured Finlay by saying: “Forever loved. Forever remembered. Never forgotten.” The appeal added: “It is with broken hearts that we share the sudden and tragic loss of Cfn Perkins, who passed away whilst on holiday with friends and family. Never forgotten’ Credit: Jam Press “No one ever expects a trip filled with laughter, memories, and time spent with loved ones to end in such heartbreak. “What should have been treasured moments together has instead become every family’s worst nightmare.” The touching tribute went on to call the brave Brit a son, brother and a loyal friend to all who knew him. “He was the type of person who would put others before himself, offer a helping hand without hesitation, and bring a smile to those around him,” it continued. “His loss has left a void that can never truly be filled.” Finlay’s heartbroken family were the first to announce his death. They said: “There are no words for how much you’ll be missed, but your grandad and best friend, Aidan, have been reunited with an absolute legend. “We will forever love you with all our hearts.” The Royal British Legion, a charity supporting UK veterans and serving soldiers, also paid tribute to Finlay. It said: “We’re very sorry to hear of the passing of Cfn Perkins, and send our deepest condolences to his family, comrades and loved ones. “We’d also like to extend our practical support to his family – please do feel free to contact us to discuss what we can do to help.” When his body is repatriated to the UK, he is expected to be given a public send off. Family and friends have been invited to escort him on foot from the old police station on Newport Pagnell High Street to St Peter and St Paul’s Church. The ceremony is planned for September 10. Mourners will later gather to celebrate what his family have described as his “adventurous life”. The family have asked for any future donations and funeral gifts to be sent to the Jack the Lad charity which campaigns for safer holidays for young British tourists.
