Brit soldier dies in ‘road traffic incident’ in Ukraine leaving family in UK heartbroken

A MEMBER of the UK armed forces died in a “road traffic incident” in Ukraine on Saturday, the Ministry of Defence said. In a statement on X, the MoD said the person died on Saturday. A spokesperson said: “It is with deep regret that we must announce that a member of the UK Armed Forces died in a road traffic incident in Ukraine on Saturday 12th September. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! “The family have been informed and have requested a period of grace before further details are released. “Our thoughts and our sympathies are with the individual’s loved ones at this difficult time.” Saturday’s incident follows the death of Ayrton Redfearn, 23, from Devon was killed in action in easter Donetsk on May 9. He had joined a specialist unit supporting the Ukrainian army in 2025, his mother said. Ayrton was due to get an award for saving someone’s life five days before his death, Natasha added in a post on Facebook. Speaking with the BBC, she described her boy as “beautiful, strong and incredibly brave”. Most read in The Sun Ayrton was a former pupil at Churston Ferrers Grammar School and joined Torquay Air Cadets at the age of 12. At 17, he enlisted in the RAF before travelling overseas. It follows the death of a Parachute Regiment soldier killed in a training accident in Ukraine in December 2025. Lance Corporal George Hooley, 28, was killed while watching the Ukrainian military test a new weapon away from the frontline, the MoD said. He was due to be promoted to Corporal just one month later.
