The pair treated their passengers “like objects, like merchandise with a price tag”, the court was told. Prosecutor Sébastien Gallois said: “Law enforcement arrested three British smugglers, two men and a woman, who came in a pleasure boat to pick up eleven migrants of Syrian or Pakistani nationality.” The group set sail for France on April 8 — the same day that four UK-bound migrants drowned as they tried to board an overcrowded dinghy off the coast of Boulogne.
