A BRITISH city exec whose toddler died after falling from a fourth-floor window at a Cyprus hotel has been allowed to go home for the two-year-old boy’s funeral. The 37-year-old, from a village near Essex, was barred from leaving the Mediterranean island after he was charged with causing death by a rash, reckless or dangerous act. At Paphos district court today Judge Froso Christodoulidou lifted the travel restrictions between August 5 and September 14. The father, who works at a big four consultancy firm, has been ordered to pay an additional 10,000 euros (£8,500) deposit to ensure his return for the beginning of the trial on September 17. Holding back tears after the hearing, the Brit said: “I’m very thankful to the judge and to the authorities for letting me go home to my wife and my daughter. “That’s all I want to do now.” Alexandros Alexandrou, defending, said: “Today he is still struggling, but he is happy with this outcome. “He was crying because, as we all understand, he needs to go back to his family, to his house, to grieve properly and to reunite with the members of the family – not only with his wife. The horror fall happened just hours after the family arrived on the sunny island on July 12 for their summer holiday at the five-star King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort. Last week the court heard that he was swinging his son from side to side before the fall, but it is understood that the suspect denies this. Investigators have said they think the Brit could have been unaware that the window was open. The Sun has seen the 4ft wide, 8ft tall sliding window from where the tot fell and can confirm that it can still easily be opened. If convicted, the city exec could face up to four years in prison. Last week, a friend of the family paid tribute to the child – whose body was returned to the UK on Wednesday – describing him as a “truly special, easy-going little boy who brought joy to everyone around him. They added: “He was deeply adored and his infectious smile, warm cuddles and kind heart are already so deeply missed and always will be.” The resort’s safety record has come under scrutiny after it emerged that the toddler is the third British tourist to die there since 2022. Ben Woods, 21, from Leigh in Greater Manchester drowned while playing in the hotel pool in July 2022. And six-year-old Ruaridh Nairne, from Inverness, drowned there in 2024. Antonis Sivitanidis, general manager of the King Evelthon hotel, said: “Allegations made by guests [on health and safety] I will not comment on as everyone has their own opinion. “Our hotel is fully licensed and complies with all regulations. It is safe for visitors to come and stay. “We are very sorry for all the families involved and we offer them our sincere condolences and sympathy.” The trial is due to continue on September 17 where the Brit is expected to enter a guilty or not guilty plea.
