Brit dad, 37, pleads guilty to ‘causing death by dangerous act’ after son, 2, plunged from Cyprus hotel window

A BRIT dad has pleaded guilty to causing the death of his two-year-old son at a hotel in Cyprus. Joshua Foster, 37, from Essex, was arrested on July 12 hours after his son fell from a fourth-floor window at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Paphos, a town on the southwestern coast of the island. His lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, had pleaded with the Cypriot Attorney General to have the case thrown out on humanitarian grounds – but the top official ruled it was to go ahead. Mr Foster spent eight days in jail after his arrest in July and was forced to tell his young girl about the tragedy over FaceTime. How the little boy fell to his death is disputed, with Mr Foster saying that he sat his child on a window ledge next to an elevator while waiting to go to the dinner in the hotel restaurant. In July, a court heard that he was swinging his son from side to side before the fall, but it is understood that Mr Foster denies this. Investigators have said they think Mr Foster could have been unaware that the window was open. Mr Foster could face up to four years in prison. A friend of the family paid tribute to the child, describing him as a “truly special, easy-going little boy who brought joy to everyone around him”. They added: “He was deeply adored and his infectious smile, warm cuddles and kind heart are already so deeply missed and always will be.” The King Evelthon hotel’s safety record has come under scrutiny after it emerged that the toddler is the third British tourist to die there since 2022. Ben Woods, 21, from Leigh in Greater Manchester drowned while playing in the hotel pool in July 2022. And six-year-old Ruaridh Nairne, from Inverness, drowned there in 2024. Antonis Sivitanidis, general manager of the King Evelthon hotel, said: “Allegations made by guests [on health and safety] I will not comment on as everyone has their own opinion. “Our hotel is fully licensed and complies with all regulations. It is safe for visitors to come and stay. “We are very sorry for all the families involved and we offer them our sincere condolences and sympathy.” 1 comment1
