Brit boy, 5, fighting for life after being pulled from swimming pool in Lanzarote and airlifted to hospital

A BRITISH boy is fighting for his life after nearly drowning in a swimming pool while on holiday to Lanzarote. The five-year-old was pulled from the water after going into cardiac arrest as medics and a hotel lifeguard desperately tried to resuscitate him. The youngster was stabilised at the scene before being flown by air ambulance from Lanzarote to the neighbouring island of Gran Canaria. He was rushed to hospital and placed in intensive care. The alarm was raised just before 1pm local time yesterday at an unnamed hotel in the Lanzarote resort of Playa Blanca in the municipality of Yaiza. A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency response coordination centre said: “The Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre received an alert reporting that a minor had been pulled out of a hotel swimming pool showing signs of drowning. “The establishment’s lifeguard, a doctor and other people who were at the scene were performing resuscitation manoeuvres on the child. “Local police were mobilised along with the Canary Islands Emergency Service and the Lanzarote Consortium for Security, Emergencies, Rescue and Prevention. “An advanced life support ambulance and another basic life support ambulance were also mobilised, as well as an air ambulance. Most read in The Sun “Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, the medical personnel assessed and treated the affected person, a five-year-old minor.” The current condition of the Brit is unknown. It comes as a four-year-old girl from the UK drowned on June 20 in a hotel swimming pool in the same Lanzarote resort of Playa Blanca.
