A BRITISH man has vanished in Greece after reportedly telling his wife he was going for a walk – sparking an urgent police probe. Greece’s elite disaster and emergency response unit (EMAK), the fire department, police and volunteers are scouring the area for any signs of the missing man. Concerns are growing as sweltering temperatures pose a high risk of exhaustion and dehydration. Local media reports the man did not have sufficient water supplies with him when he left the property. Searches are focused on difficult spots, slopes, paths and areas with limited access. Drones have been deployed to search areas that are inaccessible from the ground. Greek officials have warned that soaring summer temperatures, unfamiliar terrain and underestimated hiking trails can turn deadly for visitors. Most read in The Sun It comes after a British holidaymaker vanished in June last year whilst on a solo hike in Kilios, northern Karpathos. The 55-year-old Brit was visiting the Greek island for the first time and travelling alone. He disappeared on June 27 after setting out on a walk along one of Karpathos’s rugged trails. Initial estimates suggest he lost his way while hiking on the treacherous route, Greek outlet Ethnos reported. A witness in the fishing village of Diafani reported seeing him in Tristomo, where he had been photographing the coastline with his phone. The same local said the tourist had asked for directions to reach Vroukounda via the Lahamitis path. When the owner of the room he was renting went to clean after his booking expired, she found the space empty and reported him missing. His rental car was later found parked and locked in the Korfasia area of Avlonas, prompting a full-scale search. Authorities mobilised immediately, deploying firefighters, police, coast guard units, drones, sniffer dogs and volunteers to comb both land and coastline. His body was found almost three months later, on September 29, 2025. Comment now
