Bringing new blood into party: DMK sets age limits, two-term cap for key posts

DMK president MK Stalin has overhauled the party’s organisational structure by introducing age limits and two-term caps for several key posts, marking a significant departure from its traditional way of functioning.The changes were approved through resolutions adopted at the DMK Executive Committee meeting at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai. The party said the reforms were intended to bring “new blood” into the organisation.DMK MP P Wilson welcomed the changes, describing them as positive structural reforms. “These are good structural reforms. It is a welfare measure. Everyone is rejoicing,” Wilson said.Under the new rules, the maximum age for a Branch Party Secretary has been fixed at 45 years. Municipal, City and Town Panchayat Ward Committee Secretaries must not be older than 50. The age limit for Town Panchayat Party Secretaries, Area Committee Secretaries and City Committee Secretaries has been set at 60.District Party Secretaries will have the highest age ceiling among the posts announced, with the limit fixed at 70 years. Those elected to each of these positions will be allowed to serve a maximum of two terms.The DMK has also revised the structure of some local organisational units.In the Greater Chennai Corporation, each Area Committee will cover an average of 40,000 voters.
