Bridgerton Season 5's Return Timeline On Netflix Gets Major New Update From Star

Published Oct 21, 2026, 2:49 PM EDT Jeff Dodge (he/him), a published author and graduate of Western Washington University, has been a TV news editor for many years and has had the chance to interview multiple reality show stars, including Randy Jackson, Nick Cannon, Heidi Klum, Mel B and John Cena. Fun Fact: he’s been to every single Idol Live! Tour. A major new production update for Bridgerton season 5 has been revealed ahead of its 2027 release. The Shonda Rhimes-produced series, which adapts Julia Quinn's book series, debuted in 2022 and became an instant Netflix hit. Each season focuses on a different Bridgerton couple, like Daphne and Simon, Anthony and Kate, Colin and Penelope, and Benedict and Sophie. When the show comes back next year, Francesca and Michaela will be in the spotlight. Filming for Bridgerton season 5 began in March, and the cast and crew have now wrapped production, according to cast member Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton. The actor revealed the update during an interview on the British talk show This Morning to promote his play The Lives of Others. Thompson confirmed that Francesca and Michaela would be at the center of the story while assuring that Benedict "is still around" before adding, "We just completed [season 5] now. It's gone well." Luke Thompson: "Now it'll be about Francesca and Michaela, but obviously Benedict is still around. We just completed that now. It's gone well." With Bridgerton season 5 production now complete, Netflix still hasn't given a more specific release window beyond saying it'll come out in 2027. Over the years, the gaps between when seasons are filmed and when the popular streamer releases them have varied wildly. Season 1, for example, aired about 10 months after filming wrapped. Season 2 had a very short four-month turnaround, while season 3 had a massive 14-month post-production window. Bridgerton season 4, the most recent installment, wrapped filming in June 2025 and released the first four episodes seven months later in January 2026. Because there's never been a consistent window throughout Bridgerton's run, season 5 could be released anywhere from February to December 2027, based on those previous timelines. Some audiences have suggested Pride Month (June) as a fitting release window, since the main couple this time around is Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling, played by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza. Francesca is a widow, but her plans to remarry get thrown into chaos when Michaela enters the scene. Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlan, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Claudia Jessie, Luke Newton, Golda Rosheuvel, Will Tilston, Polly Walker, Julie Andrews, Yerin Ha, Katie Leung, Emma Naomi and Hugh Sachs also star on Bridgerton, with Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones joining the cast for season 5. The popular series won't stop there, though. Netflix has already renewed Bridgerton for season 6, and this month it announced that a prequel about Violet Bridgerton is in development. So even though the season 5 release date is unknown at this point, the future of Bridgerton is looking bright for the fandom.
