Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images The struggling and banged-up Milwaukee Brewers added some infield depth by acquiring Jonathan Ornelas from the Athletics on Saturday. Manager Pat Murphy wasted no time with the 26-year old Ornelas, putting him in the lineup as Milwaukee faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third contest of their four-game series the same day he was acquired. Ornelas was batting ninth and playong second base. He was acquired for cash considerations after clearing waivers and accepting a minor league assignment with the A's. Ornelas played in six games for the Athletics, and had two base hits in a dozen at-bats. He played for the Texas Rangers (2023-25) and Atlanta Braves (2025) before signing with a minor league deal with the New York Yankees in the offseason. New York released Ornelas in mid-July and he signed a minor league contract with the Athletics, before having his contact purchased by the major league club on July 31. Ornelas is hitting .200 in 65 MLB at-bats over 38 games. He has two doubles and driven in three runs. Starting second baseman Bryce Turang, who leads the Brewers with 76 RBI's is struggling with a left knee injury, but Murphy feels he will avoid the injured list. Milwaukee leads the Chicago Cubs by 3 1/2 games in the National League Central entering the game against the Dodgers, but has lost four of five and is 5-5 in its last 10 games. In a corresponding move, the Brewers designated infielder/outfielder Jihwan Bae for assignment. He was 1-for-2 in four games with Milwaukee. --Field Level Media
