This saw the airline axe flights to Denver International Airport (DEN) and Montrose (MTJ), both destinations in the US state of Colorado. Breeze is an American low-cost carrier that is headquartered in Utah. Launched in 2021, the airline operates a fleet of more than 60 A220-300s, while the carrier also phases out its remaining two Embraer E190 jets. The airline is renowned for flying less common routes that do not see direct competition. Data for this article has been sourced from Cirium, an aviation analytics company. Breeze Cuts Ties With Montrose Airport, Colorado Credit: Robin Guess | Shutterstock In April, Breeze made the difficult decision to cut services to Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) in the state of Colorado. The airline had flown the route since December 2024 and provided nonstop flights from Provo (PVU) in Utah and Santa Ana John Wayne Airport (SNA) in California. Initially launched with up to five weekly flights, the route was ultimately cut in April. Breeze's exit from Montrose leaves the only year-round operators at the airport as Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. Seasonal carriers include American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Breeze Discontinues Serving Denver Credit: Avi Johnson | Shutterstock Breeze's withdrawal from Denver came in August when the airline discontinued its nonstop flights to Providence. It had operated the route up to four times a week from its base at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD). The carrier first launched the nonstop service in May 2024, running seasonally across the Northern Hemisphere summer season. However, the route was ultimately unsustainable, with the airline shifting its focus elsewhere. Breeze's exit leaves the route in the hands of Southwest, which also operates the route seasonally through the warmer months onboard one of its many Boeing 737 aircraft. Upcoming Expansion At Breeze Airways Credit: Markus Mainka | Shutterstock While Montrose and Denver are now off the Breeze Airways menu, the airline is planning a major expansion at Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) next year. The airline plans to add 11 new routes from the airport, and this will increase its overall capacity at the North Carolina airport by more than 70%. This will cement the airline as the largest operator at Myrtle Beach. New destinations include Boston (BOS), Buffalo (BUF), Latrobe (LBE), and Santo Domingo (SDQ). This will bring the airline's total network to more than 90 cities across the United States and the Caribbean. Breeze Airways is growing in popularity as an airline due to its low-cost price point, point-to-point network, and connecting smaller, unserved airports that legacy carriers would otherwise skip. The airline has flexible change and cancellation policies, which are attractive when compared to other rigid low-cost carriers.
