Breaking: ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry resigns from cabinet

ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry has resigned from cabinet after the Integrity Commission made "serious corrupt conduct" findings against two senior public servants in her portfolio.The Integrity Commission found the former head of the ACT Education Directorate and Ms Berry’s then-chief of staff "dishonestly provided a back door" for the strategic interests of the Construction Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) in a multi-million-dollar contract to revamp a Canberra primary school.In a statement, Ms Berry said while the commission found no findings against her, she had made the decision to resign from her position in cabinet."I spoke to the Chief Minister a moment ago to let him know. I will sit on the backbench and continue to serve the people of Ginninderra," she said.Ms Berry has been Deputy Chief Minister since 2016, and has been considered a potential successor to Andrew Barr as Chief Minister.Along with the education and early childhood portfolios, she's also housing minister and minister for sport and recreation.In June, she was censured by the ACT Legislative Assembly over her handling of the education and housing portfolios.
