Brazen gang smashed into Peppa Pig creator’s £10m mansion and stole £65k of luxury items including handbags & luggage

A ROMANIAN burglary gang raided the £10million Surrey mansion of the creator of Peppa Pig, making off with £65,000 of loot. Radu Dogaru, 41, and Adrian Alempi, 34, broke into Mark Baker’s sprawling home on February 14. Swanky photographs shared online show the luxury property has a swimming pool, gym and spa complex, staff accommodation, six bedrooms, a cinema and garages for four cars. Dogaru and Alempi – who was previously deported from the UK once before – successfully escaped after the burglary but were caught a few days later after raiding another home. Radu Dogaru and Adrian Alempi were previously involved in one of Europe’s most brazen art thefts Credit: Handout Adrian Alempi was seen arriving at the nearby Claygate Station at around 5pm Credit: Handout Speaking about the burglary at Mr Baker’s home, Recorder Joanne Cecil KC said: “Mr and Mrs Baker left their property at around 7pm but when they came back at 8.30pm they found it had been burgled. “The value of the stolen items was £65,000 and included jewellery, a Rolex watch, Chanel and other designer handbags and suitcases. “Prior to the burglary Dogaru and Alempi were seen arriving at Claygate Station at around 5pm. “Between 7pm and 8.30pm they entered and exited the property through a first floor window. One was a Louis Vuitton suitcase which had been stolen in the burglary.” Mr Baker and his wife had locked their doors but not properly set up their alarms before leaving their home in the same town that John Terry, Andy Murray and Jamie Redknapp previously lived. The burglary had a significant impact on the Peppa Pig creator and his wife. Recorder Cecil added: “Mrs Baker said it affected her badly. She didn’t want to leave the house in case she came back to find it burgled again. “She has the alarm on all the time now. She said she screamed when her husband came up behind her wearing dark clothes as she thought he was a burglar. “The stolen items also have a sentimental value as she has memories of where they were bought and things she has done with them.” Police placed Dogaru and Alempi under surveillance – and just a few days later they struck again. The gang stole 15 designer handbags, along with high-end suitcases and luggage from Mr Baker’s Credit: Collect Alexandru Tepelus was sentenced for handling stolen goods Credit: The Sun/ Matt Dresch On February 17 they targeted another wealthy home in Robin Hood Way, Kingston They lay in wait in a wooded area behind the house for around 30 minutes before breaking into the property at roughly 6.30pm. Recorder Cecil said: “The victim was away on holiday at the time but he had CCTV and he got a notification on his phone. “When he opened it he saw a male carrying his safe in his house. There was also a second man behind him. “The victim contacted his neighbours and the police. His neighbour went around to the house and found several drawers open. “He asked him to check on the safe but it had been removed and pieces of wood were lying on the floor. “A number of high value items were in it, including jewellery, gold bars, cash in sterling and dollars, passports and other items.” Dogaru and Alempi broke open the safe in the wooded area behind the house and stuffed the valuables into their backpacks. However, they were caught by police after boarding a bus to flee the area. Several items stolen from Mr Baker’s home were found in a subsequent search of Dogaru’s home. Alempi – who was deported from the UK once before in 2014 before illegally returning earlier this year – and Dogaru were sentenced to five and four years respectively at Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday. A third member of the burglary gang was also sentenced for handling stolen goods. Alexandru Tepelus, 33, fenced stolen designer handbags, jewellery and other items to the same pawnbrokers used by Dogaru and Alempi. Tepelus was caught selling some of the items stolen during a burglary in Coombe Park, Kingston, in 2024. Burglars had taken £69,295 worth of goods from victim Amina Bawany. But she spotted the items for sale on Invaluable.com and reported them to the police. The auction site then informed officers the goods had come from Prestige Pawnbrokers, which in turn gave officers Tepelus’ details. Tepelus was handed a suspended sentence and told to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
