The Braves have brought in infielder Vidal Bruján on a minor league pact, according to his transactions log at MiLB.com. He will report to Triple-A Gwinnett as a depth option. The 28-year-old Bruján has played in 271 big league games for six clubs since debuting in 2021. He’s never shown much at the plate, taking 658 plate appearances and batting .197/.266/.272 with a 53 wRC+. His biggest sample of work came in 2024 with the Marlins. Bruján had a 74 wRC+ in 278 plate appearances that year, striking out and walking at better than average rates but showing nothing in the way of power. Bruján’s deal with Atlanta is technically a reunion. The Braves claimed him off waivers from the Orioles in August 2025 and gave him 47 plate appearances down the stretch in a lost season. Bruján was designated for assignment in January, claimed off waivers by the Twins, then quickly flipped to the Mets in a cash deal. He appeared in nine games for New York in May and June but spent most of the season at Triple-A, posting a 113 wRC+ and chipping in 16 stolen bases. The Braves figure to invite Bruján to Spring Training (whenever it ends up happening) as a non-roster player. Ozzie Albies will return at second base after his $7MM club option was exercised. RosterResource currently has Jim Jarvis as Atlanta’s starting shortstop. The team could try to re-sign Mauricio Dubon as a stopgap given Jarvis’ meager 57 wRC+ in his debut campaign. Barring a Dubon re-signing and other moves, Bruján could have a bench role as a utility player. He’s most often played second base in the Majors but also has over 175 innings at each of shortstop, third base, and in right field. The latter may be his best position. Bruján has accrued +8 Defensive Runs Saved and +3 Outs Above Average in right field in limited time. Photo courtesy of Sam Navarro, Imagn Images View Comments (1)
