It's been around for decades, and although we've seen a ton of proper mainline titles, the spinoffs keep proliferating. Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the most famous of the lot, but there are a lot of traditional JRPGs on offer too. Just look at the sequels to some of the main games too (like FFX-2), as they continue to expand the definition of "final." That legacy continues on into 2026. Thanks to a new official announcement from Sony's State of Play presentation on YouTube, you can try a new Final Fantasy now. This one is definitely worth looking at, so get on it as soon as possible. According to Sony, you can play the entire first chapter of Final Fantasy Resonance today in a demo coming to multiple platforms, and that progress will carry over to the final version when it hits in October. In addition to offering a pre-order for $49.99, PSN is hosting a demo for Final Fantasy Resonance today. No platform exclusives were announced for the demo, so you can expect this to come to other platforms as well (PC, PS5, Switch 1/2, and Xbox Series X/S). In case you haven't been following Final Fantasy Resonance, it's a new project from Square Enix and developer Lancarse, aiming to adapt the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Except Square Enix isn't selling this as a basic mobile port: it's supposedly more of a true HD-2D Final Fantasy, incorporating "all-star" type characters from classic games. The new trailer shown off during the State of Play gave us a gigantic Sephiroth, so you can expect lots of fan service throughout Resonance's run. If you do pre-order Final Fantasy Resonance, here's what you get: Pre-order Bonus: Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack This set contains an item that transforms your airship’s appearance into a magitek vessel, along with useful items to aid you at the start of your journey. Pack Contents: • Magitek Airship Passkey x1 • Knight’s Greatsword x1 • Chestplate of Preparation x1 (Increases EXP gained in battle by a certain amount) • Magicite Shard x1 • Tent x3 • Mist Potion x3 The best news is that Square Enix has reiterated that Final Fantasy Resonance is still on track for an October 22 release. It'll debut on multiple platforms at launch, and could make a huge impact for Square Enix, potentially informing future 2D titles. All we need to do now is wait and hope they deliver.
