Boy dies after being hit by train at Auckland's Baldwin Ave station

Family members have been seen crying tonight at the Auckland station where a boy died after he was struck by a train.Police said they were called to the Baldwin Avenue station in Mount Albert just before 3.30pm on Wednesday.An officer at the cordon told RNZ a young boy was struck by a train.Hato Hone St John said it sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.Fire and Emergency sent three crews to assist police.Baldwin Avenue train station in Mt Albert, Auckland.ScreengrabThe New Zealand Herald reported that Mount Albert Grammar School students were in the area and the principal, Patrick Drumm, was behind the police cordon.Police have not confirmed that the victim was a student.Train passengers said the train's brakes were slammed on when the driver saw the person.Auckland Transport said intermittent trains were now running between the city centre and Morningside, and between Avondale and Swanson.
