Boy, 14, gets first-class mark in his first year of University as his sister, 12, starts her A-levels

A pair of gifted siblings are celebrating an extraordinary academic double-win before the new school year begins - with one completing his first year at university at just 14 while his younger sister has already started her A-levels aged 12. Elias Kim has completed his first year studying MEng Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London, achieving an impressive 84.77 per cent - a first-class mark.The 14-year-old, from Bicester, Oxfordshire, secured his place at university after completing five A-levels in maths, chemistry, physics, further maths and biology by the age of 13, achieving four A*s and an A.Elias admits he was nervous about starting university so young and worried he might struggle to keep up with his much older classmates.He said: 'I felt very nervous and worried if I was not able to follow well along with the other university students, but I tried my best.'I was surprised to get 84.77 per cent. I thought university would be harder, but I was still able to pull through, which made me happy.' Elias Kim (pictured, right) has completed his first year at university at just 14 while his younger sister Ariel (left) has already started her A-levels aged 12Elias initially applied to Oxford, UCL and Imperial to study biomedical engineering.Although Oxford rejected him, despite him performing strongly in its PAT admissions test, he received unconditional offers from both UCL and Imperial, which saw him ultimately choose the London university.He added: 'The other students around me were so friendly but they were so surprised I was so young and taking the same class as them.' Since he was a young boy, Elias had hoped to become a doctor - and he now endeavours to complete his master's degree before potentially switching to medicine or studying for a PhD.But while he is already settling into university life, his 12-year-old sister Ariel is determined to catch up - and beat him.Ariel completed her GCSEs this year after beginning her exams aged just nine, achieving six grade 9s and a grade 8.She achieved grade 9s in maths and chemistry in 2024, further maths and physics in 2025, and biology and additional mathematics this year, alongside a grade 8 in further pure mathematics.She has now started A-levels in chemistry, maths, further maths and physics.Each of the siblings' academic abilities were spotted from a young age after Elias's primary school teacher noticed he could read English books fluently and had knowledge well beyond children his age While Elias is settling into university life, 12-year-old Ariel is determined to catch up - and beat himAriel said: 'I just thought that my brother was doing them young, so I wanted to try and be better than him.'He seems to get amazing results and I want to be more outstanding than others just like my brother.'Each of the siblings' academic abilities were spotted from a young age after Elias's primary school teacher noticed he could read English books fluently and had knowledge well beyond children his age.The teacher eventually suggested he skip Year 2 and move straight into Year 3.After being home-schooled from Year 4 during the Covid pandemic, Elias returned to school for Year 7 before his family decided to continue his education at home.Their success has been supported by their parents, Sung-in Kim, 52, and Kyoung-hwa Jung, 51, who both have academic backgrounds.Their mother teaches maths, piano and Korean, while their father is a senior lecturer in mechanical and aerospace engineering.Their three older sisters, who work as private tutors, have also played a role in helping Elias and Ariel through their studies. The siblings' three older sisters (pictured), who work as private tutors, have also played a role in helping Elias and Ariel through their studiesTheir sister Clara, 23, said: 'I am so proud to see how well they are doing, even better than us.'Their motivation and resilience is better than many others and our own and I believe that they deserve the results that they achieved.'Studying aside, Ariel is passionate about drawing, particularly portraits, and dreams of appearing on television, inspired by K-dramas and K-pop.She is now also considering a career in academia, adding: 'I would like to be a lecturer to teach other students on fascinating subjects and share knowledge to other people.'The family has now launched NewGenTutor, an online tutoring company drawing on their experience to help other young students.Despite his remarkable achievements, Elias points out that he has not done it alone.He said: 'I definitely admit that not many 14-year-olds would be able to do this, but I had a lot of my family helping.'Other people could also do this, but I understand it would still be really hard.'
